Do you love camping, but dislike some of the toxic things that go with it like nasty insect repellents? Read on to find out what I use when we go camping.

As a family we went away for ten days camping over Christmas and New Years. There was no phone coverage, total bliss!! This meant a lot of time in the great outdoors – walking, swimming, lazing on the beach as well as numerous board games and games of cards. Mixed in with some wine tasting too of course, given that we were camping near Margaret River, a well known wine area in Western Australia.

These were our families top 6 products while away.

1 Terra Armour (called Terra Shield in America) – Finding a natural insect repellent that actually works can be a major drama. That is why I love Terra Armour. TerraArmour Outdoor Blend contains powerful essential oils and other plant oils known for their use in the outdoors, a natural way to enjoy the environment including Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood, Catnip, Lemon Eucalyptus, Litsea, Arborvitae, Nootka, and Vanilla Bean Absolute—all of which possess specific chemical compounds known for their use in the outdoors.

There were LOTS of flies and other flying/biting insects. Terra Armour was a god send!! I love the 30ml spray bottle as it is so easy to apply and a little goes a very long way. Two sprays per adult leg and one per arm, rub it all over and it is like a magical force field!! In ten days we went through two bottles for our family of four. So so worth the money spent!!

2 Lavender – Lavender is great for many things including calming and relaxing. It is also great for soothing insect bites such as bees and ants and great to relieve sunburn.

When at the beach my son managed to walk through a bee/wasp??? nest and got stung on his foot. We liberally applied lavender and it helped reduce the pain and the next day you could hardly see it. When it started itching more lavender was applied and gave him immediate relief.

A drop of lavender added to pillows is great for a deep sleep when sleeping in a strange place with strange noises.

3 Peppermint – Ants love camping too!! I am so grateful however that they do not love peppermint!! To keep our camping table clean and ant free I took with me a 30mL spray bottle with 10 drops of peppermint and then filled with water. The bottle of peppermint oil came with me too for refills. This was great to spray the table with as we wiped it down to keep the dreaded ants away. I also sprayed it around our camp pantry and doorways.

This spray also doubles as a great cooling spray on hot days – spritz on your face (with eyes closed), chest and feet for an instant cool down.

4 Digestzen – When we go camping we can tend to eat things we wouldn’t usually at home. Add to this water that may have ‘bugs’ in it that our tummies are not used to. This is when digestzen comes to the rescue. DigestZen is well known for its ability to aid in digestion, soothe occasional stomach upset, and maintain overall digestive health. This blend contains Ginger, Fennel, and Coriander to help ease occasional stomach discomfort, including motion sickness and indigestion, while Peppermint, Tarragon, Anise, and Caraway aid with digestion.

One morning my son complained of a very sore tummy, cramps and a sick feeling… oh no!! I got my trusty oils, put a squirt of FCO in my hand, added 2 drops Digestzen and rubbed clockwise on his belly. Within 10 minutes he was feeling better!! Another day my own tummy felt dodgy, the beginnings of something brewing… I put 2 drops in my water bottle and sipped through the day and was grateful nothing eventuated.

Digestzen is also one we use when travelling to get to our camping spot, a sniff out of the bottle helps to soothe any tummies suffering from motion sickness.

5 doTERRA conditioner – we were staying at a campsite with no showers so we used our trusty camp showers. Although good to get the worst they were not so good for washing my daughters long, thick hair. That combined with salt water from lots of swimming and by day 4 she had dreads developing… doTERRA conditioner to the rescue!! I had only taken the one spray bottle, so I took the table spray above (love how it was non toxic and I could do this), added a large squirt of doTERRA conditioner and filled it with water. A good shake and a liberal spray to her hair and this made the best detangling spray ever!! So simple, toxin free and most importantly saved screaming matches getting my daughters hair brushed!!

6 Balance deodorant – As mentioned we only had our trusty camp shower, therefore a great deodorant was a must when we were all in close quarters!! DoTERRA Balance Deodorant to the rescue! Great for those hot, sweaty walks. No smells!!

So those are my Top 6 natural products for camping. I could list so many more! If you would like to get your hands on these stunning, pure, ethically sourced, sustainable, essential oil based products head here.
